Hands-on Metadata Management Training Connecting Metadata to a Data Clearinghouse Using Compusult's Meta Manager
Connecting data holdings to a clearinghouse via standardized formats has become a
priority. Users need to easily locate information about the datasets they are accessing. This is especially the case when collections are to be searchable from data
clearinghouses such as the GeoConnections Discovery Portal or FGDC.
This three-day comprehensive course will introduce the Federal Geographic Data
Committee's (FGDC) metadata standard, describe the components of the standard, and provide step by step instructions on how to build, connect and administer a metadata
database using Compusult's Meta Manager. An overview of international metadata standards, clearinghouse nodes and gateways will also be given.

|
Course Objectives: You Will Learn How To
|
|
|
- Take full advantage of Meta Manager's capabilities.
- Configure and manage the Meta Manager application environment.
- Develop metadata for sample datasets and to validate the metadata for use in a clearinghouse.
- Design an FGDC-compliant relational metadata database.
- Migrate legacy metadata to a relational database.
- Work confidently with a metadata standard in a data clearinghouse environment.
- Map internal metadata definitions to the GEO Profile.
- Optimize database and clearinghouse connectivity performance

There are three versions of the course, each one tailored to a different operating environment.
- Microsoft® Windows Environment with Microsoft® Microsoft Access
- Unix Environment with Oracle® or Sybase®
- Microsoft® Windows Environment with Oracle®, SQLServer®, Sybase®
Who Needs to Attend
This course is valuable for administrators, developers, managers, analysts, consultants, programmers and others who are, or will be,
working in a data clearinghouse environment either supplying data to clearinghouses, managing metadata repositories and systems and/or managing a data clearinghouse. This course is especially valuable to all those
organizations providing data to the GeoConnections Discovery Portal or the FGDC Clearinghouse.
Prerequisites
Students need a basic understanding of, and experience with, relational databases.
