Installing Meta Manager 4 Server and Administrator January 4, 2001

Download Meta Manager

The Meta Manager software can be downloaded from Compusult's Meta Manager web site. Be sure to download both the administrator and the server packages.

Install Meta Manager Software

Extract the ZIP files containing the Meta Manager administrator and server software into separate directories and run the "setup.exe" program included with each. Follow the installation instructions on the screen. Leave the "Connect String" edit box empty when installing the Meta  Manager Server so that it will use the default local database.

The Meta Manager server install will prompt you to reboot your computer after completing the installation. If you do not wish to reboot your computer, you will have to manually start the service named "Meta Manager" in the Services section of the Control Panel.

Meta Manager Server Installation Procedure

1. Obtain the Meta Manager Server software.
    
2. Extract the contents of the compressed downloaded file into a temporary directory and double-click the setup.exe program.
    
3. Press Next to continue. The Welcome Information screen will be displayed, providing additional installation and copyright information.
    
4. Press Next to continue. The User Information screen will be displayed.
    
5. Enter the name of the authorized user and company in the spaces provided and press Next to continue. Enter the Meta Manager Licence key in the Serial Number field. This key is used by the server on start-up. A licence key can be obtained by contacting Compusult Limited at (709) 745-7914 or licence@compusult.nf.ca.
    
6. If the default value is correct, press Next to continue. Otherwise, press Browse. The Choose Directory window will be displayed.
    
7. Select the drive/directory or type the name of a new directory and press OK. A window will appear confirming the creation of the new directory.
    
8. Press OK to continue. The Select Program Folder window will appear with a default value of Meta Manager.
    
9. To accept this value, press Next. Otherwise, type the new name and press Next to continue. The Start Copying Files window will be displayed, showing the details of the selections made to this point.
    
10. Press Next to continue. The set-up procedure will start the installation of the Meta Manager, after a few moments the Meta Manager Install dialog will appear.
     
11. Choose ODBC Data Source Names for the metaman.mdb database file (Meta Manager DSN) and the tutorial.mdb (Tutorial DSN) database file. DSNs will be created and configured to correspond to metadata databases. Choose a Port Number on which the server will listen for Z39.50 search requests. Note that the server is initially configured to use the database corresponding to the Tutorial DSN.
     
12. To dismiss the window, press OK.
     
13. After restarting the computer, the server will be listening for requests on the chosen port. Alternatively, the server can be started from the Windows Control Panel. Open the Control Panel and double-click the Services icon.   Choose Meta Manager from the list of services and select the Start button.

Meta Manager Administrator Installation Procedure

1. Extract the contents of the compressed downloaded file into a temporary directory and double-click the setup.exe program.
    
2. Press Next to continue. The Welcome Information screen will be displayed, providing additional installation and copyright information.
    
3. Press Next to continue. The User Information screen will be displayed.
    
4. Enter the name of the authorized user and company in the spaces provided and press Next to continue. The Choose Destination Location window will be displayed.
    
5. If the default value is correct, press Next to continue. Otherwise, press Browse. The Choose Directory window will be displayed.
    
6. Select the drive/directory or type the name of a new directory and press OK. A window will appear confirming the creation of the new directory.
    
7. Press OK to continue. The Select Program Folder window will appear with a default value of Meta Manager.
    
8. To accept this value, press Next. Otherwise, type the new name and press Next to continue. The Start Copying Files window will be displayed, showing the details of the selections made to this point.
    
9. After the setup is complete, a confirmation window will appear.
    
10. To dismiss the window, press OK.
     
11. The Meta Manager Administrator can be started by selecting Meta Manager from the Windows Start Menu. Note that an ODBC Data Source must be configured for any Meta Manager database that is to be accessed using the Administrative Interface.
