Compusult Software Will Provide
Streamlined Gateway to Millions of Geospatial
Data Products and Services.
Recognized internationally
for its advanced geospatial portal solutions,
Compusult Limited of Mount Pearl, Newfoundland
and Labrador, is pleased to announce it has
been awarded a $2M contract to develop next-generation
web portals and related software engineering
services for GeoConnections, a national program
led by Natural Resources (NRCan).
GeoConnections is a national
partnership program led by NRCan that works
with decision-makers and technology developers
to increase the use and sharing of location-based
(or “geospatial”) information
and technologies online, via the Canadian
Geospatial Data Infrastructure (www.cgdi.ca).
“The CGDI currently provides
decision makers with access to online Web
mapping and other information and technologies,
enabling them to better monitor, understand
and tackle some of Canada's most pressing
challenges,” said Minister Hearn. “This
contract will bring further enhancements to
data access for Canadians and will enable
this Newfoundland and Labrador company to
expand its geomatics expertise and centre
of operations.”
Under this multi-year contract,
using Compusult’s Web Enterprise Suite
software, Compusult will build two next-generation
web portals for GeoConnections: the GeoConnections
Discovery Portal and the GeoGratis portal.
This work represents a major advance for the
CGDI, providing users with more efficient
ways of discovering, sharing and accessing
geospatial information to support decision
making.
When complete, the next-generation
GeoConnections Discovery Portal will offer
powerful new capabilities and a straightforward
interface, making the search for geospatial
resources easier. This advanced, standards-based,
Web application will provide a personalized
user experience, supporting communities of
interest and content aggregation (spatial
and non-spatial) from different distributed
Web resources. The portals capabilities, based
on Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) and International
Standards Organization (ISO) standards, will
also allow for easier sharing and distribution
of geospatial information and services between
organizations. The GeoGratis portal will be
gateway to Canada's largest repository of
free, location-based data. Together, these
portals provide access to millions of data
products and services online.
